ECHOES – Digital reconstruction of ancient human biographies

ECHOES research project proposes the development of an innovative methodology for highlighting the human past of a city through the biographies of its inhabitants. We study the human remains and the archaeological findings that emerged during the excavations of Thessaloniki’s metropolitan subway, reconstruct health, diet and demography of the ancient population of Thessaloniki and highlight the city’s multicultural and diachronic character with the help of advanced visualization and storytelling methods. Visitors will be able to learn the history of Thessaloniki through guided tours in the form of walking performances and AR and VR applications.

The project is implemented as part of the RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE Action and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union and national resources through the EP. Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Innovation (EPANEK) (project code: T2EDK-00152).
